Top Ten Tuesday Books We love to Recommend
brought to you by: the broke and the bookish
Jeni's Picks:

Historical Fiction Lovers:
1. Edenbrooke by Julianne Donaldson: This book makes my all time favorite books. I’ve reread so many times. If I’m in a reading slump this is my go to book.
2.The Painter’s Daughter by Julie Klassen: Okay I actually recommend all her books. She is my favorite writer in this genre. I preorder every book.

YA Contemporary
3. If I Stay by Gayle Forman: This book sat on my shelf for a long time before I finally picked it up to read. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it.
4. The Only Alien on the Planet by Kristen Randle: This is a book that needs more attention. It is seriously a great read. If I know teenager that likes to read I buy them this book.

YA Paranormal
5. Hex Hall Series by Rachel Hawkins: This is a fun series. My sister and I recommend it a lot.

Urban Fantasy
6. Mercy Thompson Series Patricia Briggs: My sister Emily introduced me to this series a couple years ago and I loved it.
7. Written in Red by Anne Bishop: The world building in this book was amazing. I highly recommend it.

Fantasy
8. Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson: I'm not a hug fantasy reader but I do venture into this genre every once in awhile. My dad and sister recommended this series. I recommend this book to reluctant fantasy readers all the time.
9. The Green Rider by Kristen Britain: Another great fantasy series. The only problem with this one is that Kristen Britain writes slow. So if you have a hard time waiting for the next book. I recommend to wait until she is done with the series because she has some crazy cliff hangers that will drive you crazy.

Non Fiction

10. Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand: If you like stories of survival and WWII this book is perfect for you. If you haven't already read it:) The movie was okay but the book was definitely 5 stars.

Top Ten Tuesday:
2015 Releases We Meant to Read but didn't
brought to you by: the broke and the bookish

Jeni's Picks:
1.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas:
I didn't love her other series so I've been reluctant to start this one.

 2.

The Last Time We Say Goodbye by Cynthia Hand:
I went to a book signing event where Cynthia Hand talked about this book that would be coming out soon. I was all for reading it when it came out but somehow forgot about it.
3.

I was Here by Gayle Forman:
She is a fun author to meet in person. I have loved her other books. I'm not exactly sure why I haven't read this one. I guess I haven't' been in the mood. I'm sure when I pick it up it will be one of those books where I think "I should've read this forever ago".

 4.

The Heart of Betrayal by Mary E. Pearson:
This one I didn't read because I decided to wait until the third book comes out.
5.

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard:
I really wanted to read this book but my niece warned me I would hate it. She knows me well so I put it back on the shelf.
 6.

 Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver:
Another book that I bought and even went to the book signing and then my sister hated it. So I've put off reading it.
7.

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins:
Right before I went to buy this book my friend put up a review about how much she disliked it. So I picked out a different book instead.
8.

Crenshaw by Katerine Applegate:
My younger book club loved the One and Only Ivan. I bought this book and my mom mentioned she wanted to read it so I let her borrow it. I just forgot she had it:)

9.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo:
I need to read this book.
10.

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab:
Another book I just need to read.

Top Ten Tuesday:
Books we resolve to finish in 2016
brought to you by: the broke and the bookish

Jeni's Picks: I'm horrible about finishing series. So my resolution is to finish what I started.
1. The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo. I absolutely loved Shadow and Bone and had planned on finishing the series but I keep putting it off.

2. The Pledge Trilogy by Kimberly Derting: Another series that I just read the first book of. I'm pretty sure I'll have to read the first book again because its been four years.

3. Firelight Trilogy by Sophie Jordan. I read books one and two. I don't know why I haven't read the third one yet.

4. Throne of Glass Quartet by Sarah J. Maas: I really didn't like the first book in this series. But my friends all loved it and beg me to give it another chance.

5. Birthmarked Trilogy by Caragh M. O'Brien: I loved the first two books. I think the reason I didn't finish this series is because of the fear of hating the last book. But I am determined to give it a go this year.

6. The Forbidden Sea Duet by Sheila A. Nielson: I really need to read the sequel The Shadow Sea.

7. The Remnant Chronicles by Mary E. Pearson: Kiss of Deception was one of my favorite reads last year. I bought the second book but I'm waiting to read it so I can read all three one after the other:)

8. The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater: Another series that is ending this year. I still need to read book three but I'm again waiting for the last book to come out.

9. Paranormalcy Trilogy by Kiersten White: I've read the first two but forgot to read the last one. Hopefully it isn't a horrible ending.

10. Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth: I haven't read the final book because someone accidentally mentioned what happened. So I've put off reading it. But I'm promising to finish it this year.

Emily Picks

Considering I keep adding to my TO READ LIST...

1. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

2. Some Quiet Place by Kelsey Sutton. For someone who wears their emotions on their sleeve, I hope this book will be a good read.

3. Teasing Secrets from The Dead by Emily Craig.  I love reading crime books, history books etc, so this is next on my list.

4. Murder of Crows by Anne Bishop.  This series is like a slow burn.  I enjoyed the first book and am taking my time with the second.

5. Every Other Day by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

6. All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill.  I started this book clear back in March.  It's waiting to be finished.

7. All The Light We Cannot See by Antony Doerr.  I have had this book waiting for a while.  I guess it's about time to take a crack at it.

8. Cinder by Marissa Meyer.  This book scares me just a little.  I have an aversion to anything Sci-fi, and this is Sci-fi and a fairy tale retelling.  Does it actually work?  Remains to be seen.  I'll give it a shot this year.

9. Reboot by Amy Tintera.  This is another book I started a while back  but didn't finish.

10. The Moon Dwellers by David Estes.  I figure I liked the Hunger Games and the Maze Runner, and every other book like those in between, so I would give this book a go.

Top Ten Tuesday: Best Books 2015
brought to you by: the broke and the bookish

Jeni's Picks:
1. A Desperate Fortune by Susanna Kearsley:
I loved this book. I actually love all her books. But this is definitely my new favorite.

2. Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson:
Great read. I recommend it to all my friends that like fantasy.

3. Breathing Room by Marsha Hayles:
A middle grade book but a good one. This book is about a little girl that has tuberculosis. It was sad/happy read.

4. Written in Red by Anne Bishop: I love urban fantasy novels and I can't believe I hadn't read this yet. I read all three books in a week and then suffered withdrawals. The next book doesn't come out till March which seems like forever away. Big Bummer.

5. Winter by Marissa Meyer: Love, Love, Love this series. What a great way to end it. Another book where I suffered withdrawals after. I might just have to reread the whole series during Christmas break.

6. After You by Jojo Moyes: I was surprised to see all the negative reviews of this book. I sat down and read it in 4 hours and then sat there for another hour wishing I would've savored it a bit longer. I really liked what she did with all the characters. Her whole family was a riot to read about. The only negative was I wanted more.

7. Edenbrooke by Julianne Donaldson:
Okay, so I've read this before but it is a life saver. Anytime I'm having a reading slump I reread this book. I read it three times this year. I have a couple of books that are my fall backs. This is usually my number one choice. Drops of Gold by Sarah M. Eden or The Maid of Fairbourne Hall by Julie Klassen are my runner ups. Do you have a book that helps you out of a reading slump?

8. Rump by Liesl Shurtliff:
Another middle grade novel. A nice twist on Rumpelstiltskin. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Her book Jack: the true story of Jack and the Beanstalk is fun too.

9. The Curiosity Keeper by Sarah E. Ladd:
I've enjoyed all Sarah Ladd's books. They get better with each new release. I'm looking forward to her next book Dawn at Emberwilde which comes out in May.

10. Blood Song by Anthony Ryan:
My dad recommended this one. I read it slowly because there was a ton of information to remember. I need to read the next two books.

May: Ella Enchanted by gail carson lavine
this is the second book we have read by Gail Carson Lavine. We have read fairest and enjoyed it so much we decided to read Ella enchanted. It is completely different than the movie. We met her a couple of years ago when she came to the Provo city library. we didn't get a picture of that event. It was to busy they so didn't allow them.

THe girls enjoyed this book but what I loved was that they shared it with their moms. I had many of the moms call to see if I had the second book to borrow.

September: Hook's REvenge
This book is hilarious. I highly recommend it to read to your kids or even read for yourself. the girls loved meeting the author. We actually met her last year at a different book launch and liked her so we bought her book and we are glad that we did. great book!!!

October: Doll bones by Holly Black
creepy good. it wasn't as scary as i thought it was going to be. we only had a few girls not finish because they found it to scary. read with the lights on:)

November: Rules by Cynthia Lord
lots of life lessons in this book. we didn't like how it ended. we all felt it fell a little short and we wanted more. many of the girls didn't like the main character. They thought she was a little selfish. Which led to a great discussion on how we should treat others.

December: no book. the girls prepare for the battle of the books in january where we test on all the books we read this year.
